A bad capacitor can also cause a low, steady hum from the condenser — the fan might not even spin. If you hear an AC unit buzzing but the fan doesn't move, cut power at the outdoor disconnect and call a tech. Don't keep trying to run it. That humming is the motor trying to start, and it can burn out fast.
Rattling or clanking
Rattling outside AC unit? Usually it's a loose panel, a branch stuck in the fan, or a small rock kicked up by a mower. Popping or banging
